The Rhodes Minnis Cat Sanctuary was founded by the Late Miss Veronica Huthwaite in 1970. It is an entirely independent Charity relying on its own fundraising activities and the support of its members and friends. It exists to care for unwanted and homeless cats from all over Kent, London and even further afield. Some are genuine strays, some have been ill treated or abandoned, others are homeless because their owners have died or unable to care for them anymore. Many of the cats are brought to us by individuals, but some come from other animal welfare charities who do not have the accommodation we provide. We aim to find good homes for as many cats as we can and we have a continuous homing programme.
Every effort is made to keep in touch with Sanctuary cats after homing and many of our members have had more than one cat from the Sanctuary.
Those cats that cannot be re-homed because of their temperament, health or age or because nobody takes a fancy to them, stay with us for the rest of their lives. We never put a cat to sleep unless our vets advise us that it no longer has any prospect of a reasonable quality of life. Our permanent population is always about 200. To date we have re-homed some 18,981 cats, including kittens born at the Sanctuary.
Visitors to the Sanctuary are welcome between 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm every day ( Except 25th and 26th Dec when we are closed).
All our cats are neutered or spayed, tested for FelV and Fiv, flead, wormed and vaccinated against flu, enteritis and leukaemia.
